Zwei Jahre nach dem Tod seiner Frau und Bandkollegin Mimi Parker veröffentlicht Alan Sparhawk von Low ein Soloalbum. Der Sound auf "White Roses, My God" hat etwas Fiebriges, mal aufgebläht, mal statisch, immer am Rande des Schwindels. Neben der energetischen, schwer greifbaren Electronica singt Sparhawk fragmentarische Texte durch ein Helicon-Pedal. "The tools I used before no longer work", sagte er während des Entstehungsprozesses. "I’m trying to use my voice, but I don’t want to hear my voice, so I needed to find another voice. I started the machines, messed with them until something resonant happened, and then I started singing. And, sometimes, something would come out that I could not stop and I could not mess with."
